I have been a fine artist & designer for 12 years now, but my main money maker is graphic design. When I graduated from art school, I really wanted to be a FT painter. Beautiful vision, but let me tell you, it is really hard to do and put food on the table.
After 12 years, I have finally come to terms with the fact that graphic design is my main gig and my fine art is just for me. If someone likes it enough to purchase, fine, if not fine too.
With that said, now I can create whatever the hell I want. Blessing? In some ways, but three years later and I am still trying to figure out what I want from my art – what makes me happy?
This is what I have come up with:
- THE WORK: figures, flowers, fauna, texture, variety, small-ish, intricate, but not every piece is a long term project, maybe representational of where I grew up
- FINISHED WORK: minimal storage space, clean, reasonably price and easy to get supplies
Embroidery checks off all of #2 finished work requirements. I am working to find a signature style that checks off all of my #1 boxes.
